    The Ministry of Industrial Development, Commerce, Crafts and Small and Medium Enterprises in partnership with the Burkinabè Cashew Council (CBA) is organizing from August 31 to September 2, 2023 at the Maison de la culture de Bobo-Dioulasso , the Estates General of the cashew sector of Burkina Faso. Started on Thursday August 31, 2023 under the presidency of Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélem de Tambèla, the work is placed under the theme “Cashew nut sector in Burkina Faso: What reforms for inclusive and sustainable development? » The cashew sector is a strategic sector, given its strong contribution to export revenues, the creation of added value, employment and poverty reduction. In 2021, according to Trade Balance data, raw cashew nuts ranked 4th among Burkina Faso's 10 main export products and 2nd among agricultural products exported after cotton. During this year, it generated a total revenue of 64.37 billion FCFA, representing 2.3% of the value of Burkina Faso's total exports. These difficulties mainly relate to the low productivity of cashew trees, the low performance of raw cashew nut processing units, the absence of a financing mechanism appropriate to the sector and the weak organization of the national cashew market. Added to these difficulties are crises within the production and marketing links which hinder government intervention in the sector, jeopardizing the gains already made, especially in terms of organization. Furthermore, certain actors engage in fraudulent practices in export operations of raw cashew nuts. It is to remedy these numerous constraints that the present general meeting of the cashew sector is being held under the theme: “Cashew cashew sector in Burkina Faso: what reforms for inclusive and sustainable development? ". The States General are intended to be a framework for dialogue bringing together all stakeholders with a view to conducting in-depth reflection on the issues that undermine the development of the cashew sector in Burkina Faso in order to agree on the trajectory to follow for harmonious development. of this sector.
